[ this all tracks in a sideways sort of way. but he kind of pauses in that. really giving danny a close look. like. yeah. some ghosts look extremely solid sometimes, but this is maybe a little much.
it makes sense actually. of course you fight something on your own level. how's that any different than what he does? ]
"Going ghost." [ he's letting his brain do some work. ] But not a full one. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to have the form you have. Would you? Unless being here also changed that for you.
[ fuck if he knows, maybe ghosts are different where danny's from. ]
[ nods ] ...right. I'm only...half-ghost. Or, well, I was before. I think this place has just made me...completely human but with some limited intangibility.
This place changed a lot of things for a lot of people, so it wouldn't surprise me that it rendered you back to being mortal. Even if they were "kind" enough to let you keep something close to one of your own powers. [ his arms fold over his chest then, studying him briefly. ]
I don't think I've ever met a half-ghost before. How long has it been that way?
Not bad. [ genuinely. ] It's enough time to have a decent grasp on new abilities. And others to manifest, if that's something that happens for you. Learning new uses for what you've been able to do before....
[ wait hold the fuck on, focus. ]
Wait, how exactly did you become half a ghost? [ he kind of wishes he could still sense people's life energy but he'll just have to ask awkward questions, he guesses. ]
Yeah, that would happen. People are always surprised how thin the line between life and death is sometimes. Is this where I say "congratulations on still being alive" then?
Well, I'm not half-ghost. [ it's a joke as he tries to think of the best way to explain it. ] I guess you could call it a special interest of mine. I've been using my powers for about five years now...usually I can control the dead, including ghosts. I can summon and release them, too. I can't phase through things like you can, but people like me can shadow travel.
...being born? [ the "how" is kind of straightforward and kind of not. ] The timing is different for everyone, but my powers manifested when I was ten. I kind of trained at camp for a little while but I left after a few weeks. I ended up being trained by a ghost while I was gone, but I didn't go back to stay until last year.
[ he brought it up, but thinking about it means he still looks a little frustrated suddenly. ]
A terrible one. [ point blank. he takes a moment to think. ] He was a judge in my father's domain, but when he found me he had another agenda in mind for revenge. I didn't realize it at first. I was focused on other things and...it made it easier for him to almost succeed. But he taught me enough of how to control my powers for me to overthrow him in the end.
Definitely not. It's not always so bad, especially since I have more awareness and can block them now. Or get them to work for me instead. [ sometimes. ghosts actually are bad. but he kind of shrugs. ]
As far as I know, he's still a judge. I haven't seen him since I stripped him of his title and banished him. The man he wanted revenge on allowed me to release his spirit to be escorted back to the Underworld, and he's still building bridges and underpasses in Asphodel. So at least there's a sort of happy ending for him.
It's a little complicated to explain. [ it's not. he just has decided that's for a different time so he stops dropping information everywhere despite the fact he's kind of intrigued that there are other worlds like this out there. ]
Banishing? Yes. Stripping his title? Not really, that was just a bonus. [ ... ] But it's stuck since then, so I guess it really is mine even now.
About the same as anything else undead. I can direct them to my will. I can physically hold them or silence them as I need to. But there are still some ghosts stronger than me, so it takes other means sometimes to bring them back under my control.

I felt...responsible. I didn't exactly want to hunt ghosts, but I kind of started the problem and I was the only one who could take care of it, so...
no subject
I can understand that, yeah. [ hm... ] Are you still the only one who can take care of it? How do you even hunt ghosts where you're from?
no subject
As for how I hunt them... [ shrugs ] Being a ghost levels the playing field a lot.

And what about you, Mr. Necromancy-and-"ghost-to-ghost-communication"?

I'm still testing my limits though.

How'd you end up being able to do all that?

...what kind of ghost trained you?

And they're usually the type to be short-sighted enough to be overthrown.
What happened to him after that?

What's with all the 'stripping him of his title' and banishing stuff? That part of your powers too, somehow?

Banishing? Yes. Stripping his title? Not really, that was just a bonus. [ ... ] But it's stuck since then, so I guess it really is mine even now.

...what about the "controlling ghosts" part? How does that all work?
