[ hm. well. he's very hyperaware of all kinds of touch because up until maybe a year or so ago he was very much touch-avoidant, so he notices.

he also chooses to pretend it didn't happen even if he's kind of going ??? because it doesn't bother him as much as it should. what the fuck. anyway. danny can have the book and nico's slowly taking his hand back to very casually fold his arm over his chest. but he also looks briefly amused. ]

Is that surprising? I've only read a few of them on and off, and I still have a lot to go through, but I think they're interesting.

[ shrugs ] I always hated them. Having a teacher breathing down your neck about not reading Romeo and Juliet because you stayed up all night catching ghosts kind of ruins the appeal of any of them.

Well, see, that's the difference. I stopped going to school when I was ten. [ can't hate teachers if you don't actually have them. it's also said like a joke despite the fact it's. true. ] But I could see how that'd kill any enjoyment for just about anything.

[ since danny is currently holding his book, he does turn back to the shelves to scan for something else before snagging a copy of frankenstein as well. is he a parody of himself? perhaps. does he care? absolutely not. ]

Could've just watched the movie though.

[ he. sort of looks like he's going to ask what sparknotes are, but he decides not to. ]

Unfortunate. [ he's more amused than anything, but he's thumbing through his new book. ] But I'm guessing this means being a ghost hunter also means a lack of free time for...you know. Anything else.

Usually. Sometimes we tried to force some free time anyway, but...it usually got hijacked by ghost attacks.

Monsters for us. Hasn't anyone ever told them they should really make an appointment before issuing an attack? [ dry. ] In a way being here is almost like a break? At least for a few days a week.

Huh. I...hadn't thought about it that way.

I guess being here is kind of more relaxed than back home. ...mostly.

Hence the books. [ there's a grin, and he's holding out a hand. book? ] ...admittedly part of it is also to keep myself occupied because I know the people I usually spend my time with do enjoy being around other people.

Ah. [ hands the book back ] Gotta occupy yourself so you don't hog your friends 24/7?

Yup. Especially when those people are a lot more extroverted than I am. Let's call it a conservation of energy. [ fucking foxes. ]

Ah. [ nods in perfect understanding ] Now it all makes sense.

I'd say "does it?", but I get that I don't exactly make it a secret I'm not a people person like some Foxes are.

Huh. They really all are.

It's weird, right? I mean maybe it's not but it feels weird that there are so many of them that are just like this and say whatever they want to whoever they want without thinking about it.

[ snorts ] I guess that's why they all got lumped together on Fox's team. To contain all that sociable weirdness.

And for that I'm sure most of us are grateful for. [ rip to our norma. but back to the shelves and he's half browsing and half talking to danny because he can multitask decently enough. ]

How're thing at Tiger anyway...? [ considering. the day before. ]

[ shrugs ] About the same. We don't really talk or hang out much--not as like a group in the dorm, anyway.

[resumed]

It's not for everybody, I guess. [ letting his fingers trace over bookspines... ] We have a chat and sometimes we hang out as a group but not really. It's easier to talk to the other Phoenixes by themselves.

[foreverphantom]

[ nods ] Definitely.

The only real "group bonding" we do is trashing the place, but even that we just tend to kind of add on to on our own time.

[resumed]

[ help. ]

Yeah, Tiger actually told me about that. Kind of sounds like a whole...thing. [ he does not address if this is good or bad in his book. ]

Oh, so Tiger's tattling on us now?

[ a thin smile. ]

Maybe a little. [ this is all tiger's business, but...sometimes you understand on a deeper level. ] I think they're really not sure how to talk to you guys half the time.

Oh yeah, I heard all about Tiger's...visit to Nimona when you guys were in jail. [ jesus christ they really did that in front of god and everyone, sucks in air through teeth ]

[resumed]

Y...eah. That was...[ honest to god that sure did happen while they were all right there, and he's still conflicted about it. also, it's a natural flow of conversation so answers the other part you had anyway. ] Some of them are easier to talk to than others. Depending what you ask and what you're looking for. Rabbit and Snake are good conversationalists for things going on here. Fox and Mouse are fun when you want to take your mind off of things. Ox and Goat are nice enough and are shockingly normal in a lot of ways. And...obviously I get along with Phoenix best so that's a completely different category.

Either way, I think they're all just as lost as we are. It's not great since we are all looking for guidance on what we're supposed to do, but they could probably stand some extra support themselves, too. Who knows?
