It's not so bad once the electrocution's over. And once you get the hang of the powers. I spent a few months barely able to stay solid and visible.

Yeah, a little. I think I got banned from ever handling any equipment in the chemistry lab.

Banned from chemistry lab equipment? [he seems amused.] TV shows make it seem like chemistry labs have all sorts of explosive stuff in there. Is that true?

Well, I don't know that they let high schoolers mess around with the explosive stuff. I got banned for dropping beakers and test tubes and stuff all the time. Nothing really ever exploded. Just lots of broken glass and stuff.

Oh. That's not nearly as chaotic as I was imagining.

I was homeschooled, so... all I really know is what I've seen on movies and TV shows.

High school really isn't supposed to be all that dangerous on its own.

Chem lab explosions, big dramatic escapes when someone pulls the fire alarm, stampedes to the cafeteria before all the good food sells out...

No to the first one, the second one happens but usually for ghost alarms instead of fire alarms, and the cafeteria never had good food to begin with.
